Visit from Grandma

Grandma Judi came for a visit from Indiana this past week. Stanley had a great time with her! Every time he looked at Grandma, he laughed! We went shopping, played with the dog in the yard, did a lot of playing in the house, and tried some new food. Grandma baby-sat for Stanley so Matt and I could go out to lunch. That was only the third time we've gotten to do something alone together! Since Grandma left on Monday, Stanley is really missing her. And right after she left, he got his second tooth!

Laurelhurst Park

Today was a beautiful day! We went to Laurelhurst Park to hang out with Stanley's favorite baby friends. Stanley went swinging and played in the grass with his buddies.

First Trip to the Zoo

Stanley went to the Oregon Zoo today. He loves to look at Glory, our dog, so I thought he would like the zoo animals. Unfortunately, he wasn't too excited about the zoo! I took him to look at the underwater tanks of salmon, Polar bears, elephants, goats, pigs, and giraffes. Most of the time he had an uncomfortable look on his face and was whining. Then he fell asleep. Well, better luck next time! At least it was a beautiful day!

Stanley loves to drink water from a cup! He can usually get a few sips before spilling it all over his tray and himself.

Baby Sign Language

We hosted a baby sign language class at our house today. We learned many songs using signs and strategies for using sign language in our daily lives to help Stanley learn to communicate basic ideas. We had 4 baby friends and 7 adult friends over. It was a little overwhelming for Stanley to see everyone at his house. He was a little upset about it at first! But by the end of the class he was happy and hanging with his buddies. I'm excited to start using what we've learned today!

First Tooth

I've been checking every day waiting for Stanley's first little tooth to poke through, and it finally happened! I could feel a little bump under his gums for a while. Today the ridges of his first tooth are cut through his gums. It feels pretty sharp! I guess this explains his lack of sleep for the past week. I was wondering what was going on with my little guy!

Six-Month Check-Up

Stanley had his 6-month doctor visit today. He is 17 pounds 9 ounces and 27 1/2 inches long. He also got immunizations today. He is healthy and growing wonderfully!

Fun with Cucumbers

After two days of avocado, Stanley got to try cucumbers today. He wasn't sure about it at first, until he saw me eating a cucumber slice. Then he wanted it, and he really liked it! 

First Solid Food

Stanley was given his first solid food today. I handed him a slice of avocado, and he put it in his mouth and made a face. Then he mostly just squished the avocado around on his high chair tray and in his fingers. We're trying to skip cereal and purees and go straight to Stanley self-feeding. So, it will be a process of Stanley learning what to do with food. Overall, Stanley's first experiment with food was a success, even if he didn't actually "eat" any of it.

Pacers Game

Stanley went to his first Pacers game last night! He was dressed up in his Pacers gear to represent for the Indiana team since we were going to the game in Portland. Stanley did great at the game. He was very excited about looking at all the people in the crowd, the scoreboard and lights, and the thunder sticks people used for cheering. He was definitely the star of the show whenever he was around. People were smiling and waving at him. A few Blazer dancers were even talking with him, and he was being his flirty-self and smiling at them. It was a surprisingly easy time with him at the game, and very fun! The first of many NBA games for our little basketball fan.

Stanley wore hearing protection at the game. We were worried it would bother him, but he didn't seem to mind.

Our seats were 6 rows behind the backboard. Stanley had a great view of the basketball players. Hopefully we'll be sitting there watching him play some day!

It was Blaze's birthday (the mascot for the Blazers), so it was "mascot night." Boomer (the mascot for the Pacers) was there, and Stanley got to meet him!

Mommy Matinee

A local theater has a "Mommy Matinee" during the day for moms to bring their babies and watch a movie. We went today with our friends Leslie and Violet to see The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. We made it through less than half of it, and the half I was there for, I have no idea what was going on! Stanley made sure I was paying attention to him and not the movie. Stanley is so active these days. He didn't understand why we were just sitting in the dark. He thought it was so boring! Since he wouldn't stop whining and squirming, we called it a day and let the rest of the audience enjoy the movie.

Another Book Babies

We went to another Book Babies at the library today. Stanley had the best time, right from the start. He was listening to other babies laughing and squealing, and he was smiling and giggling too. He loved the books today, especially the one about toes and the other about splashing. At the end of Book Babies, Stanley was socializing with two girls. He was trying to take one of their books away and kicking them (he was just having fun!), so they crawled away. Stanley wanted to be with them, so he rolled and rolled over to where they moved to. It was so funny to see him rolling along! He also sat up for a minute or so. He's almost there!
